Ironman O'side 2001

You all know that I am not that big of a story teller but I realize that sharing a big event is a way of connecting with everyone.   Who would remember Homer if the “Iliad” were never written?   I know that it is hard to think of me as humble when I compare my story to this famous epic but there are a lot of similarities that are hard to deny.   Both of us had to cross many miles in the sea, at least Homer had a boat.   Both of us had to deal with journey that even the best preparation couldn’t account for the challenges of the journey.   Homer had to deal with turning to stone if he looked at Medusa.   My legs were turning to stone as I looked at the median turn around point.   Both of our wives had to put up with the kids while us “heroes” were out on our self-inflicted epic.   (Now you know the real hero in the stories.)   Okay, so you get the point.   Preface: After finishing the same Ironman Course last year, it took ...

Escaping from Alcatraz

Alcatraz lived up to its notorious reputation.    Cold water and strong currents.      Brad and Andy are driving down today (Monday).   I wimped out and flew back last night.   (I am sure that I will hear about the killer steak dinner but that is another story.)   Brad had a disp water proof camera.   We took some neat pics.   Cant wait to see how they came out.   We all had the same experience.   The swim was a real mental teaser.   Before we boarded the boat, the race director told us to avoid the notorious currents, we should follow the lead out motorboat.   As we sailed over to the infamous Alcatraz, the captain of the boat said that we were lucky because it was “slack tide” in the SF bay meaning no currents.   It started out in near fantastic conditions except that we had to jump ten feet from the boat into the who knows how cold water.   With the obvious conclusion that no one gets t...

A story of Green

After spending a whole week sitting at my desk, I look forward to getting my hands dirty with grease, dirt, or some sweat.   As it turned out, I just got them covered in green.   ________________   Last week someone left a section of the paper in the stall, since I cant stand not occupying my time with something, I was pleased to see it there.   However, I was bummed when it turned out to be only the classifies ads.   Still, I did have some free time so I decided to scan it anyway.   I saw a tiny add that read,   "Coinorama.   80 collectors selling coin collectibles. Scottish-right center.   July 23-24 SD"      Cool, I thought.   I can take some of Dad's coins there and sell them.   There was a bit of irony in that the stall is the place that Dad used to do some of his best thinking, I wondered if this was a sign?   Saturday rolled around.   I got in my morning run, met with a friend,...

2016 Jack and Jill Marathon

I forgot my pants! Today was the first day since April that I rode my bike to work. That in itself is not so interesting but the fact that I remembered 15 minutes into the ride that didn't have a pair of pants at work makes the story a bit more interesting. Luckily, for my coworkers, my wife was still home and drove the pants to me a few miles from home. Crisis averted!! So that was a teaser just to get you to read my blog of sorts. Jack and Jill marathon. The marathon course was beautiful. If it was closer I would cancel all my other marathons (I dont have any but that's not the point) and solely run the Jack n Jill. It was just like the old days, or so they tell me, small group of people. We almost missed the american anthem. We crowded into our corral and we were off.!! I started in the 3:10 corral. The 3:30 was pretty big and I figured it was better to be at the front of 3:30 than at the back. I kinda felt bad ditching Grant but he was going to run a smart race and I was g...
